Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does this curriculum meet the teaching standards?
A: All 20 lessons included in the manual have been aligned with the national standards for teaching and meet requirements in the areas of mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, technology, fine arts, and physical education.
Q: How can a home schooler use Educaching™?
A: Educaching™ is perfect for the home schooling environment. With a sngle GPS unit, a whole world of possibilities opens up as you would be able to take your child beyond the school yard to parks, historical sites, and other areas where a classroom cannot go. You and your child will both enjoy the Educaching™ lessons you prepare, which will add technology, adventure, and excitement to your home school curriculum.
Q: How much time is required to do Educaching™ with my class?
A: The amount of preparation time needed will be about 30-45 minutes to set up a hunt, and around 30 minutes to an hour to do the actual hunt. If you have shorter class periods, the students can hunt outside during one period, then complete the concluding activities the following day in class. Note: If you are just beginning to do Educaching™ with your students, you will need to allow more time to prepare hiding places, inputting coordinates in GPS units, and other items covered in the Teacher Training section of the manual.
Q: Will this curriculum carve away from the precious
time
needed to teach what I normally teach?
A: You will not have to abandon your current teaching content and teaching manuals you use everyday. Rather, you can use Educaching™ as a unique vehicle to teach your students the standards and enhance the content you are already teaching in an exciting way.
Q: Will hidden containers on the school grounds appear dangerous
or as possible safety threats when “outsiders” see them?
A: It is important to obtain permission from your school administrator before hiding containers on school grounds. There are ways to make containers appear harmless to a school visitor or other student who may come across one of your hidden treasures. Ideas are provided within the manual, along with a template for printing labels that identify your containers as a part of an educational scavenger hunt.
Q: Where and how do I obtain enough GPS devices for my class(es) to use?
A: The Acquiring GPS section of the manual goes into detail of ideas you can use including borrowing from select organizations, fundraising for equipment, donations, and grants. A detailed plan for grant writing is included in this section as well.
Q: Can I use the Educaching™ manual without purchasing GPS units?
A: It is actually recommended to purchase the manual first before buying any other equipment. The manual will provide you with valuable strategies you need in order to plan and equip for this adventure. Also, explanations for Educaching™ and everything it entails (i.e. lesson plans, templates, application ideas) are included for you to share with administrators and colleagues who may want to join in your venture.
